5 Beauty Essentials You Need to Look Amazing this Fall

It’s been a bit hectic for me of late, and I haven’t updated this blog in…well, a while. I’m going to change my posting schedule from once every 4 days to once a week. Fingers crossed I can keep up with that. Fortunately, though, it means we’ve fast tracked to my favourite season – Autumn! As the majority of my readers seem to be from the US, I will force myself to refer to it as Fall. These are my top 5 beauty and fashion essentials for this time of year. Make sure to get your hands on them soon!

1. A Deep Lipstick

The next few months aren’t complete without a dark lipstick or two, berry shades are some of my favourite to really embrace the crisp weather and changing leaves. My personal favourites are purples, like the NYX ‘Soft Matte Lip Cream’ in the shade Prague (not pictured as I seem to have mislaid it). If berry tones aren’t your thing, you can of course go for browns or reds – I think anything that isn’t a peach or pink shade is on the autumnal end of the spectrum. Some of my other favourite Fall shades are burnt oranges; the Smashbox ‘Always On Liquid Lipstick’ in Out Loud and the Ofra ‘Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick’ in Miami Fever dress up any makeup look for the colder seasons.

2. Chelsea Boots

Chelsea boots are a must have for Fall – they’re comfortable, practical, and go well with skinny jeans and jumpers (let’s face it: that’s what the majority of us are wearing at this time of year, as the weather is too awkward to fully wrap up). I picked up a pair from H&M recently for just under £25. I got the black leather style ones, but they also come in fake suede and a really nice burgundy shade. I’ve been throwing them on with everything – make sure to wear thick socks though as they take a little while to wear in and soften – and I just know they’re going to be a really useful buy.

3. A Good Moisturiser

The colder months will definitely take it out on your skin, so it’s time to make sure you have a high quality, hydrating moisture source. The light gel formulas I’ve been recommending all Summer probably won’t help much now! I’ve been using my Glossier ‘Moisturizing Moon Mask’ as a night time moisturiser (I’ve already spoken about this product here). It’s supposed to be a 20 minute mask, but on my dry skin using it as an overnight treatment gives me the amount of hydration I need.

4. A Gray-Toned Nail Polish

I mentioned Zoya being one of my favourite cruelty-free nail polish brands in this post, and referenced the shade Kristen. I purchased this polish because I needed a cruelty-free alternative to my former favourite Fall nail shade – Essie Chinchilly. It’s a grey toned cornflower blue, and it goes so well with most of my winter wardrobe. The colour combination matches both gold and silver jewellery, as well as all kinds of makeup looks. I think that grey nail polishes are key at this time of year as the shade is crisp and chic. It’s subtle glam, I guess.

5. A Lightweight Concealer

Cold weather certainly cakes up makeup, and you need something hydrating and dewy to counteract this effect. I’ve been grabbing the Too Faced ‘Born This Way’ concealer on the daily now, it’s lightweight and sheer in texture yet offers a decent amount of coverage. Once set it stays on all day, and doesn’t leave me with creases on my under eyes.

I hope you found this post useful, and that you’re now ready to look amazing this Fall! Thanks so much for reading – again, I’m hoping I can be back to you with a new post every week.
